Charlestowne Mall
St. Charles, Illinois
St. Charles' second shopping mall, Charlestowne Mall, opened in August 1991 with Kohl's, JCPenney, Sears, and Carson Pirie Scott as its original anchors. Competition from Geneva Commons after 2002 triggered a long decline, and despite several changes in ownership and unfulfilled renovation plans, the property lost Sears in 2011 and Kohl's in 2016. The mall shut down entirely in 2017 aside from its cinema, and today sits vacant under Urban Street Group's ownership.
