Kalispell Center Mall has anchored downtown Kalispell since 1986 with JCPenney, Red Lion Hotels, and an on-site casino and US Bank branch. Herberger's expanded to 80,000 square feet in 2017 before its parent company, The Bon-Ton Stores, folded and closed the store in August 2018, leaving that anchor space vacant. Ownership has changed hands twice for $11.6 million, first in 2013 and again in March 2024 to a Spokane-based buyer.
