Known widely by its original name Jersey Gardens, The Mills at Jersey Gardens opened October 21, 1999 in Elizabeth, New Jersey as the state's largest outlet mall, with roughly 1.29 million square feet of leasable space closer to New York City than rival Woodbury Common. Developer Glimcher Realty Trust ran the property until Simon Property Group acquired it in a 2015 deal tied to spinoff Washington Prime Group. A 2013 remodel briefly rebranded it as The Outlet Collection before Simon folded it into its Mills portfolio under its current name.
