Evansville's Washington Square Mall opened in October 1963 as the first enclosed shopping center in Indiana, with Sears and an A&P supermarket as its first anchors. After Sears departed in 2018, the property lost its remaining anchor stores, and in 2023 Goodwill acquired one of the vacant anchor sites for a new corporate headquarters and thrift operation. Smaller tenants today include a bridal consignment shop, a lounge, a pizzeria, and a coffee shop.
