Federal Way's only indoor shopping center, The Commons at Federal Way, took its current name in 2003 after decades as SeaTac Mall, a change meant to avoid confusion with the neighboring city of SeaTac. Merlone Geier Partners bought the property from Steadfast Companies for $46.5 million in 2017. More than 70 stores operate here today, anchored by Burlington, Century Theatres, Kohl's, and Target.
