University Mall
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
University Mall opened in Tuscaloosa on August 20, 1980, built on the former grounds of the World War II-era Northington Naval Hospital, and stands as the largest mall in western Alabama at over 733,000 square feet. JCPenney and two Belk stores anchor the enclosed property, while a Sears space has sat vacant since the store closed in 2018. The mall sustained moderate damage from a powerful tornado that struck Tuscaloosa in April 2011.
