CocoWalk opened in 1990 in Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood, its Spanish-style architecture and open central plaza helping transform the once-quiet Bohemian district into a dining and shopping destination. Popularity faded in the early 2000s when Miami Beach began drawing more visitors, and the open-air center changed hands several times before Federal Realty Investment Trust acquired it in 2015. A redesign stripped away the Spanish styling and shifted some retail space to offices, and the property reopened after a full overhaul in 2021.
